The Liquid Network is a faster, more private layer built on top of Bitcoin. It’s a Bitcoin sidechain—a separate network that uses real Bitcoin but adds features like quicker confirmations and confidential transactions. Liquid was developed by Blockstream and is operated by a federation of functionaries who secure and manage the network from day one.
On Liquid, Bitcoin takes the form of L-BTC, which is pegged 1:1 to BTC. You can move BTC into Liquid via a peg-in, and back out to the main Bitcoin network with a peg-out. These actions are handled by the federation, ensuring the peg stays fully backed and auditable.
In AQUA, you use the Liquid Network when sending or receiving L-BTC or USDT on Liquid. Transactions confirm in about one minute, and amounts are hidden by default using Confidential Transactions.
AQUA is built on Liquid to give you fast, private, and secure transactions—while keeping your wallet non-custodial.
